Over the years the Scottish Borders have been the birthplace of a variety of extraordinary human and equine heroes who have gone on to change the world in some way, be it sporting prowess, by inventing, discovering or in war. In 2009, the SEIB Borders Festival of the Horse has eight themed guided rides that will follow in the footsteps of great local names. The Borders are renowned for having some of the most varied and beautiful, yet accessible riding country in Britain. This Borders landscape that shaped such entrepreneurial and intrepid people and competitive and brave equines, today provides a network of tracks and beautiful rolling countryside that can be peacefully explored on horseback.
There are eight guided rides at the 2009 SEIF Borders Festival of the Horse and this year's theme is Heroes, Heroines and Horses of the Borders, supported by Forestry Commission Scotland.
2010 Guided Rides
guided ride from wooden farm, kelso
6-9pm, £12
A circular ride starting and finishing at Wooden Farm. The route will follow the old railway through Sprouston, back along the riverbanks of the tweed at Redden and home via the railway. Riders must be experienced as there will be long canters along tracks and grass fields.
Booking required by 18 May. Children must be accompanied by an experienced adult.
